My questions, how can I replace the Xenon headlight units with Halogen units? Is there any modification of the wiring harness needed? Are there any after-market lights available for the 957, I've seen several for the 955 and newer models. So, to review the pros and cons of xenon lights: ADVANTAGES: longer lifetime than halogen lights. As much as I love the HID Xenons, I can't justify the cost of 2 headlight assemblies, bulbs, at least 1 ballast, and leveling/adjusting on my 2009 Cayenne Base. Passenger side was able to be emergency patched up with electrical tape, however the other side is destroyed and unusable (unless it can be disassembled completely rewired). Of course, xenon lamps have slowly became available in a number of sizes and versions, especially to be used on various types of cars. Black wires had minimal damage and the other colors were completely unaffected. According to official stats, a xenon bulb produces 3000 lumens and 90 mcd/m2, while a halogen light generates 1400 lumens and 30 mcd/m2. For some reason, the brown wires were most affected and almost bare. If youre curious to learn about how traditional halogen, LED and HID (Xenon) bulbs work, check out our guide on the Different Bulb Types. The wires to the connectors, directional light, hi-beam, and actuator were all exposed and shorting out. If youve landed on this page, you are most likely wondering what the difference between LED and HID/Xenon is, which we cover extensively. Upon removing and opening my headlights, I noticed the plastic insulation around the wires was flaking off. I recently got the dreaded CHECK DIPPED BEAM and HEADLIGHT SYSTEM FAILURE in my 957.
